My Grandma Betty drank “soda water with cranberry juice” for as long as I can remember. I’ve always liked cranberry juice, and I remember that this was a tasty drink. Since we are coming into summertime, it seems to be a perfect time to share this fun spritzer with all of you.
Nutritionally, this spritzer has a lot to offer. It is a lower sugar alternative to regular soda and other sweetened beverages. And certainly the lack of artificial sweeteners is a plus. There’s no question it is a smart choice among traditional summer drinks.
But the thing that really makes this drink fun is how it looks. Now that we are enjoying warm weather and entertaining outside, few things are as pretty and festive as a tray of colorful drinks. By putting a handful of frozen cranberries in the bottom of the glass, you’ll get a little extra chill in your spritzer as well as the fun visual effect of the bubbles on the cranberries. Also, the berries slosh around nicely in the glass as you drink without leaving pieces behind that will get stuck in your teeth – bonus!
I’ve brighten up my serving tray with one of my new summer dish towels from Sur La Table. Let me say that it is a miracle that I left the store with only four new towels. They have an amazing collection with wonderful seasonal colors and it is soooo very hard to choose. But I digress. In short, gingham makes virtually anything cute and summery. And the bright pink contrasts with the green in your yard so pictures are that much more fabulous 🙂
So go make yourself a pretty tray of these tasty spritzers, put some
sunglasses on, and celebrate the arrival of some beautiful weather outside!
