Chocolate Covered Strawberry Danish

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Danish

Surprise your family this weekend with this homemade danish recipe!  These cute little danishes have only three ingredients and are so easy to put together.  They are a real treat with a hot cup of coffee, especially if you’re the one making them 🙂

Have you ever woken up in the morning to the smell of something delicious baking?   Few things say “Good morning!” like a pan of freshly baked goodies on the kitchen counter.  My daughter Alex regularly puts in her weekend breakfast request the night before so it can be ready to eat when she rolls out of bed around 11 am.   I vaguely remember what it was like to sleep that late but I digress…

Alex also never misses an opportunity to enjoy some quality chocolate goodness.  Just last night, she had a bowl of fresh strawberries and asked me to melt some chocolate for her to dunk them in.  It was nearly impossible to not melt my own bowl of chocolate and have a one woman fondue party!

Suffice to say that this combination of chocolate and strawberry was her idea.  You don’t find any danishes with chocolate glaze on them at the grocery store so making them is the only way to have them.  Fortunately, these are quick and easy.  Plus, all of the ingredients stay fresh for a good while so you can keep the ingredients in the house for whenever someone is in the mood for fresh danish.

I’ve done the chocolate glaze two different ways.  The first is to make it from scratch, and I love this Chocolate Glaze recipe from Junebug.  The second is to melt a cup of milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave.  Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Ingredients

  • 2 rolls Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 cup strawberry preserves
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  3. Unwrap roll dough but do not separate them into the individual rolls; instead, cut each roll of dough into 8 evenly sized circles by cutting the dough like you would cookie dough.
  4. Place circles of dough spiral side up on the parchment.
  5. Lightly flour your hands to prevent the dough from sticking and smoosh the rolls down so there is a small edge to hold the jelly in. The flatter you make them the better but work quickly because they pop back up!
  6. Place a heaping teaspoon of preserves in the middle of each flattened roll piece. Do not spread it out (it will do that on its own in the oven).
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on the edges; remove from oven and cool.
  8. Melt milk chocolate chips and place the melted chocolate into a sandwich size zip top bag.
  9. Snip off a very small piece off of one of the bag's bottom corner and gently squeeze to drizzle the chocolate over the danish in whatever pattern you like.
  10. Enjoy!
