Being Well

“Leave it better than you found it” is a saying I first learned when I was a Girl Scout in elementary school.  At the end of each campout, we would stand shoulder to shoulder and walk our campsite to ensure we were leaving nothing behind and that we had also picked up anything left by the folks before us.  It was a very deliberate use of a new minutes to ensure that we were walking the “leave it better than you found it” talk.  And since it was a group activity, everyone participated and we all held each other accountable.

What if we all cared for ourselves in the same way?

Each one of us deserves to be cared for – and care for ourselves – in this attentive and very deliberate manner.

But do we make the time for it?  And even if we have the time, do we really know how to sit with ourselves?  Are we able to unpack each piece of the baggage that we carry around?  Can we love ourselves in spite of our baggage, especially the pieces that came from our own lousy choices?

Can we – put very simply – be in this moment without judging ourselves?

I will openly admit that my answer to that question is generally “no”.   I will also openly admit that I am working on turning this “no” into a “yes” by acknowledging how I am feeling (not judging – just observing) and making self-care a priority.

I’ve read a few really good books which I will share with all of you.  And I’ve been dabbling in yoga, barre and other cardiovascular intensive exercises to keep my body stretched and moving.  I look forward to sharing what’s worked – and what hasn’t worked – fo me.

In the meanwhile, please enjoy this post about getting more fruits and veggies into your daily eats.
